FAO-Hungarian Government Scholarship Programme ( Master's Degrees in Hungary)

FAO–Hungarian Government Scholarship Programme is offered by FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia. The scholarship purpose is to cover specified student costs for the Master of Science degree courses offered in English for the academic year. FAO states that the costs are financed by the Hungarian Government under an agreement between FAO and Hungary.

The programme supports Master of Science courses taught in English across participating universities and includes Master in Aquaculture at Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (Szent István Campus, Gödöllő) and Master in Animal Husbandry Engineering at University of Debrecen (Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences and Environmental Management, Debrecen). Eligibility is limited to residents (who must be nationals) of listed countries and territories.

Selection occurs in two phases. FAO pre-screens candidates and submits complete applications to the Ministry of Agriculture of Hungary, which sends them to the university chosen by the applicants. Universities may ask selected candidates for a written or oral English examination, then run their own selection and inform successful candidates. FAO states that student selection by universities involves no involvement from FAO.

The scholarship covers student costs only and does not support family members within the programme. FAO states that support covers application and tuition fees throughout the study period, basic books and notes, dormitory accommodation, subsistence costs, and health insurance. The programme also states that courses are offered provided the minimum number of students is reached.

• Resident (must be a national) of one of the eligible countries and territories: Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Angola, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Chad, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gambia, Georgia, Ghana, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lebanon, North Macedonia, Madagascar, Mali, Myanmar, Republic of Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Namibia, Nigeria, North Korea, Palestine, the Philippines, Republic of Cabo Verde, Serbia, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Yemen.
• Applicant citizenship and residency must be of one of the eligible countries listed.
• Master of Science degree courses in English (language requirement for courses taught in English).

• Applications must include a COMPLETE dossier (incomplete dossiers will not be considered).
• Files without names will not be processed.

1. Submit an application via email during the period from 20 January to 28 February 2025.
2. Prepare a COMPLETE dossier; incomplete dossiers will not be considered and files without names will not be processed.
3. FAO will pre-screen candidates and submit applications to the Ministry of Agriculture of Hungary.
4. The Ministry of Agriculture of Hungary will send applications to the corresponding university as chosen by the applicants.
5. After selection, selected candidates may be asked to take a written or oral English examination as part of the admission procedure.
6. The participating university will run further selection and inform each successful candidate; selected students will also be notified by the Ministry.
