University of Pecs Hungary Government Scholarships (Stipendium Hungaricum)

The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme was launched in by the Hungarian Government as part of the “Eastern and Southern Opening” policy, and it is managed by Tempus Public Foundation. The programme’s core mission is to increase the number of foreign students in Hungary and encourage Hungarian higher education institutions to attract foreign students. The University of Pécs states that every year hundreds of international students gain admission to the university with this scholarship.

The scholarship supports non-degree, bachelor, master, one-tier master, and doctoral study levels at the University of Pécs. Applicants choose the University of Pécs as their first priority institution and select a study level among bachelor, master, or doctoral, and a study mode of full degree studies or partial/exchange studies. Applicants choose English as their language of study, and they may choose up to two study programs as first and second priorities.

Applications must be submitted through the online application system of Tempus Public Foundation, with the selected study program at the University of Pécs set as the first priority. The University of Pécs evaluates nominated applications by 30 May. Successful applicants receive a Letter of Admission and a Letter of Award to begin travel arrangements.

Support includes tuition-free education through exemption from tuition fees. The scholarship provides a monthly stipend for living expenses and accommodation support for the whole duration of the scholarship period. Medical insurance support includes health care services according to relevant Hungarian legislation and supplementary medical insurance up to HUF 65 000 a year/person. The stipend duration is stated as for 12 months a year until the completion of studies for the listed non-degree, bachelor, master, and one-tier master levels, and for doctoral level it is stated as until completion of studies.

• Nationality: not Hungarian citizens (including those with dual citizenships).
• Prior scholarship restriction: former Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship holders who are re-applying for studies in the same cycle of education (e.g. bachelor, master, doctoral) are not eligible.

• Tuition: exemption from payment of tuition fees (tuition-free education).
• Monthly stipend (non-degree, bachelor, master, one-tier master): HUF 43 700 for living expenses, for 12 months a year, until the completion of studies.
• Monthly stipend (doctoral): HUF 140 000 for 12 months a year until the completion of studies.
• Accommodation: dormitory placement OR a monthly contribution of HUF 40 000 to accommodation costs for the whole duration of the scholarship period.
• Medical insurance: health care services according to relevant Hungarian legislation (Act No. 80 of 1997, national health insurance card) and supplementary medical insurance up to HUF 65 000 a year/person.

1. Apply through the online application system of Tempus Public Foundation and choose your selected study program at the University of Pécs as your first priority.
2. Register in the system by providing basic personal information, ensuring citizenship is filled in correctly; record and keep the unique applicant access code.
3. Log in to the system using the unique applicant access code.
4. Select the study program by choosing: specific institution as the University of Pécs; study level as bachelor OR master OR doctoral; study modes as full degree studies OR partial/exchange studies; and choose English as the language of study. You may choose a maximum of two study programs (first and second priorities).
5. Set the priorities of the selected study programs at the University of Pécs (first priority, and optionally a second priority).
6. Complete the remaining sections of the online application form, upload the necessary documents, and submit the application by 15 January.
7. Ensure you are nominated by the responsible authority of your home country; contact their nomination requirements.
8. Wait for evaluation: nominated applications are evaluated by the University of Pécs by 30 May.
9. If successful, receive the Letter of Admission and Letter of Award by July 15 latest to arrange travel to Pécs.
