Master of Surgery

The Master of Surgery (MS) at Manipal University is offered in the following streams: General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics and Otorhinolaryngology. Training includes Basic medical sciences related to the disciplines, applied aspects of the subject, and allied subjects. Postgraduate training places emphasis on Preventive and Social aspects, alongside clinical disciplines.

Teaching and training use lectures, seminars, journal clubs, group discussions, laboratory and experimental work, research studies, and exposure to applied clinical aspects. Clinical training includes graded responsibility in managing and treating patients, practical training in diagnosis and medical and surgical treatment, and participation in clinical meetings, grand rounds, and clinico-pathological conferences. Postgraduate students attend monthly mortality meetings and tumour board meetings for relevant cases.
