Graduate Diploma in Domestic Sexual Gender Based Violence Studies

The Graduate Diploma in Domestic, Sexual & Gender-Based Violence Studies at Dundalk Institute of Technology deepens and expands interdisciplinary knowledge and critical understanding of Domestic, Sexual, and Gender-Based Violence. Students study childhood and adolescent experiences, sexual violence and consent across diverse relational contexts, research theory and design, and evidence-informed engagement with individuals who perpetrate abuse.

DkIT delivers the programme through blended delivery, predominately online with some face-to-face workshops. The programme runs part-time for 1.5 years across Year One modules on theoretical, policy and legislative context of DSGBV, trauma informed practice, coercive control, and research methods for evidence based practice, followed by Year Two options in sexual violence, engaging with perpetrators of DSGBV, and children and adolescents for health care practice and improvement.

The programme is of particular interest to individuals whose work may bring them into contact with victims of DSGBV. Students may continue onto the MSc in DSGBV Studies.

Applicants should hold a full Level 8 qualification, normally with a minimum of a 2.2 in a relevant honours’ degree or an equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline.

• Candidates who do not meet the above entry criteria but have considerable relevant experience may apply for entry to the programme in accordance with the procedures outlined in the DkIT Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) policy.
• Applicants may be interviewed to determine their suitability for the programme.
• DkIT requires that current service users of Domestic, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence support services do not undertake this programme. They should delay their application until such time as they are no longer an active service user.
