Bachelor of Science in Midwifery Registered Nurses

The Bachelor of Science in Midwifery (Registered Nurses) is a specialist undergraduate program designed to prepare registered nurses for careers as midwives. It provides essential knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for quality care of expectant families. The program lasts two years and is structured as a full-time day course, spanning 5 semesters plus one summer term. The course combines instructive teaching sessions, including classroom lectures, clinical visits, and skills lab instruction with experiential learning in hospitals and health centers across Jamaica. It also includes general education courses for critical thinking and communication development, along with midwifery-specific modules for specialized practice.

• Must be a Registered Nurse with proof of current nursing license in the country of practice.
• Approval from the Nursing Council of Jamaica (NCJ) as a graduate from an approved general nursing programme is required.
• Exemptions of up to 20 credits may be granted for lacking university modules; if denied, such modules must be completed along with midwifery core modules.
• RNs meeting these criteria are exempted from years one and two and will complete years three and four.
