The Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy in Built Environment cover research degrees in various specialisation areas including Architecture, Construction Technology and Management, Environmental Sustainability and Climate Change, Geomatics and Geoinformatics, and Urban and Rural Land Management. Students engage in research relevant to designed man-made structures and environments, balancing these with the natural world for sustainability. The courses are offered in person at the Papine Campus and last between 2 to 4 years.
For research degrees, a first class or second-class honours degree, or equivalent qualification. Entry to MPhilBE + PhDBE Year-1 is for those with an undergraduate or Bachelor’s degree in the built environment. Entry to MPhilBE + PhDBE Year-2 skipping Year-1 is for those with a taught Masters or equivalent in the built environment and a thesis in the chosen specialisation, having completed six credits of research methodology. Entry to PhDBE Year-3 skipping MPhilBE Years 1 and 2 is for those holding an MPhil or equivalent in the built environment in the specialisation area. Architecture specialisation requires architecture bachelor or masters degrees equivalent to RIBA parts 1 and/or 2.
