Master of Science in Industrial Chemistry

The Master of Science in Industrial Chemistry program focuses on the principles of interactive learning and hands-on research. It includes a thesis component and prepares students for careers in applied chemistry or Ph.D. studies. The curriculum covers advanced chemical processes, innovative materials, sustainable practices, chemical theories, experimental research, statistical analysis, and industrial chemical problem solving.

The program requires completion of 36 credits, including 6 credits of thesis work. It supports development of skills in communication, ethics, chemical safety, and critical assessment of scientific literature. Teaching assistantships and research assistantships may be available for qualified students who take a full-time load.

The degree aims to prepare students for careers in various industries such as pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals, nanotechnology, and sustainable energy, emphasizing leadership, critical thinking, and project management.

Applicants must hold a BS degree in Chemistry with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Those with a GPA between 2.7 and 2.99 may be admitted conditionally, enrolling in up to 6 credits in the first semester and must achieve a minimum grade of “B” in each course.

Admission may include required undergraduate remedial courses in Chemistry. Remedial courses require a minimum average grade of 2.7/4.0 (“B-”), but their credits do not count toward the MS degree. A maximum of 9 graduate transfer credits may be accepted with Faculty Graduate Committee approval.
