Bachelor of Education Hons Teaching English As Second Language

The Bachelor of Education (Hons) in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) at Universiti Selangor (UNISEL) is designed to prepare future English language teachers. Students study core English language competence, including English grammar, vocabulary, phonology, and discourse analysis, plus TESL methodology such as communicative language teaching, task-based learning, and technology-integrated instruction. The program also covers language assessment and curriculum development for English language curricula aligned with national and international standards.

Teaching experience is built around field placements in both government and private schools. Students apply theoretical knowledge to real teaching contexts and develop classroom management, effective communication with students and colleagues, problem-solving and critical thinking, and reflective practice. Students also have access to language courses, including Mandarin and Arabic, which support intercultural competence. Support services include academic advising, peer mentoring, career services, and access to modern classrooms, computer labs, and libraries.

A Pass in STPM with a minimum of Grade C (GP 00) in any two (2) subjects; OR

A Pass in STAM with a minimum grade of Jayyid; OR

A Certificate in Matriculation or Foundation with a minimum CGPA of 00 out of 4.00; OR

A Diploma (Level 4, MQF) in any field with at least CGPA of 2.00 out of 4:00; OR

A Diploma Kemahiran Malaysia (DKM) / Diploma Lanjutan Kemahiran Malaysia (DLKM) / Diploma Vokasional Malaysia (DVM) subjected to HEP Senate / Academic Board’s approval*. Attendance in bridging courses is requireed; OR

A Pass in UEC with a minimum of Grade B in five (5) subjects including English Language; OR

An Advanced Diploma (Level 5, MQF) with at least CGPA of 00 out of 4:00; OR

Other relevant equivalent qualifications recognised by Malaysian government as equivalent to the above requirements.

Additional requirement: MUET Band 4 or its

• Instructing in both public and private secondary schools.
• Contributing to curriculum development, teacher training, and educational management roles.
• Pursuing opportunities in journalism, advertising, broadcasting, and publishing.
