Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Social Studies

Bachelor of Secondary Education, major in Social Studies is a four-year program offered by the College of Education – Department of Secondary Education. It prepares students for the art and science of teaching and builds know-how in pedagogy, including foundations of education, principles of teaching, facilitating learning, curriculum development, child and adolescent psychology, assessment of student learning, educational technology, instructional materials preparation, and classroom management. Students also develop disciplinal expertise through the Social Studies specialization.

The program culminates with an intensive one-year practice teaching in the laboratory school of the College and in cooperating public and private schools, with active mentoring from professional teachers. Curriculum topics shown include The Teaching Profession, Foundation of Social Studies, Trends and Issues in Social Studies, Assessment in Learning 1, Technology for Teaching and Learning 1, Geography 1, World History 1, and The Contemporary World.
