Sasol Foundation Scholarship for South African Students

The Sasol Foundation offers a comprehensive bursary to talented individuals planning to study full-time towards an undergraduate degree to pursue careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). Priority is given to degree studies aligned with future capabilities including Green Economy and Digitalisation, covering disciplines such as Engineering, Information Technology, Data Sciences, Agricultural Science, Environmental Sciences, Medical Sciences, and Construction & Manufacturing. Postgraduate bursaries are not available for the forthcoming academic year.

For non-STEM options, bursaries are reserved for qualifying students from Sasol fence-line communities; children of Sasol Khanyisa shareholders; and children of Sasol employees wishing to study towards non-STEM qualifications. Eligibility is limited to South African citizens (by birth only) who are or will be pursuing full-time degree studies at an approved public South African University or University of Technology.

All applicants undergo screening based on South African citizenship (by birth only), household income verifications, academic performance, and whether they meet the specific reservation criteria (children of Sasol employees, Khanyisa/Inzalo shareholders, or candidates from Sasol fence-line communities). The combined household income must not exceed R800,000.00 per annum, and final selection prioritises financially needy and academically competitive candidates. Applicants must be doing their first undergraduate degree, must not be older than 25 years at the time of application, and must have completed matric within a year prior to submission (or be completing matric if applying for first-year degree studies).

The bursary provides financial and developmental support throughout the study period. After successful completion of the study period, students may be employed within the Sasol Group through Graduate Development Programmes.

• Must have completed matric within a year from the time of submitting an application, or be currently completing matric when applying for first-year degree studies.
• Household income must be verified and the combined household income must not exceed R800,000.00 per annum.
• Academic performance is used in screening.
• STEM bursaries are reserved only for qualifying children of Sasol employees, Khanyisa/Inzalo shareholders, or candidates from Sasol fence-line communities.
• Non-STEM bursaries are reserved only for qualifying students from Sasol’s fence-line communities (municipalities/districts around Sasol plants/operations); children of Sasol Khanyisa shareholders; and children of Sasol employees.
• University students applying for second-, third-, or fourth-year studies must have an average of 60% for all modules.
• Postgraduate bursaries are not available for the forthcoming academic year.
