Bachelor of Industrial Studies Honours Agricultural

The Bachelor of Industrial Studies Honours Agricultural is an undergraduate honours programme offered by the Faculty of Engineering Technology at the Open University of Sri Lanka. It is designed for students engaged in a particular industry or intending to join the industry. Students focus on agricultural subject areas such as Agricultural Biology, Land and Soil Tillage Management, Postharvest Biology and Technology, Integrated Crop Protection, Food & Nutrition, and Crop Production and Farming Systems.

The programme includes compulsory courses at Levels 3 and 4, and compulsory courses at Levels 5 and 6. It also includes an Individual Project (Agriculture), Specific Training I (Agriculture), Specific Training II (Agriculture), and Industrial Training (Agricultural). Students complete a minimum 4 years of study, including six months of first-hand experience on research at one of the agricultural research stations in Sri Lanka, with training in proposal writing, conducting research, and presenting findings and dissemination.

Admission Requirements:

• Obtained three (03) passes from Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Agriculture at the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination, Sri Lanka in one & the same sitting, or
• Obtained a minimum three (3) credit (C) passes for Biology , Physics and Chemistry in Cambridge International/ Edexcel Advanced Level Examination, Within three years, or
• Obtained the Advanced Certificate in Science with courses in the disciplines of Biology, Physics and Chemistry offered by the OUSL, or
• Obtained an equivalent or higher qualification acceptable to the OUSL Senate.
• Those who have obtained Diploma in Agriculture from any recognized institution are eligible to register for the BIS programme.
