Bachelor of Science Honours in Nursing

The Bachelor of Science Honours in Nursing at the Open University of Sri Lanka develops competent professional nursing graduates through broad knowledge, skills, and favorable attitudes for nursing practice. The programme includes objectives such as enhancing knowledge and professional attitudes, improving critical thinking for nursing care, developing skills in research, and applying teaching and learning concepts to promote health and well-being.

It supports leadership and management in nursing care, builds communication and collaboration skills, and facilitates lifelong learning for nursing education and practice. The BSc Honours programme consists of courses at Levels 3, 4, 5, and 6, totaling 120 credits (30 credits at each level). Applicants with a Diploma in Nursing are exempted from Levels 3 and 4 and complete only Levels 5 and 6 (60 credits).

Applicants should possess the following qualifications to register at the Level 5 of the Bachelor of Science Honours in Nursing Programme:

• Obtained a minimum of the following: Diploma in Nursing or General Certificate in Nursing awarded by the Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka, or Diploma in Nursing offered by the OUSL
• Obtained Minimum three (03) Pass grades in one sitting in the Science stream of study, at the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination, Sri Lanka
• Minimum Simple Pass (S) for English at the G.C.E. (O/L) Examination, Sri Lanka, or an equivalent or higher qualification acceptable to the Senate
• Pass the selection interviews and be eligible on the Merit list of the selection interview marks
