Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences Honours

The Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences Honours at the Open University of Sri Lanka is a four-year degree programme with 120 credits. It provides integrated education and training in Medical Laboratory Sciences for healthcare and research needs, and prepares students for independent learning, career development, and postgraduate studies.

Students study core subjects such as Histopathology, Haematology, Clinical Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics and Molecular Biology, Immunology, and Laboratory Management. The programme includes work-based training in real clinical setups, along with courses for research and innovation that cover statistics, research methodology, literature review, and a research project. Generic skills include Health Communication, Ethics & Professional Development, English for General Academic Purposes, and Information Communication Technology.

• Minimum three (03) Pass grades in one sitting in the Science stream, including Chemistry at the G.C.E (A/L) Examination, Sri Lanka.

AND

• Minimum Simple Pass (S) for English at the G.C.E (O/L) Examination, Sri Lanka

OR

• An equivalent or higher qualification acceptable to the Senate.

AND

• Be eligible for admission based on the Performance at a test and/or an interview conducted for the purpose of admission.

Note: Diploma holders in Medical Laboratory Technology from the Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka, fulfilling the criteria given above will be granted an exemption of 30 credits from regular Courses at Level 03.
