The Diploma in Microbiology at The Open University of Sri Lanka is designed for professionals in relevant private and government sectors, as well as learners who want to gain or upgrade knowledge and skills in Microbiology to become professionals in a microbiology-related field. It also supports those seeking background knowledge for quality and technical roles across Production, Quality, Research and development, Validation, Engineering, and other technical disciplines.
Study is delivered through a distance mode blended online programme with limited attendance for formal face-to-face activities. The programme includes two theory-based course units, a practical course unit with field visits to the industry, and a research project (mini project). Learning includes case studies, hands-on laboratory sessions, small group sessions, laboratory practicals, field visits to observe advanced microbiology techniques, and a research project that develops critical thinking and analytical skills.
