Graduate Diploma in Education

The Graduate Diploma in Education at the Open University of Sri Lanka provides professional training for graduate teachers and other graduates working in education. It is a 36 credit programme aimed at providing professional training to graduate teachers in the school system. Students follow nine compulsory courses and two optional courses, for eleven courses in total, within the Education discipline.

Admission is based on a selection test. Only candidates who pass the selection test are invited for an interview prior to admission. The minimum programme duration is one academic year (15 months). The programme is conducted by the Department of Secondary and Tertiary Education, Faculty of Education.

Should hold a Bachelors degree of minimum three (03) years duration, with a minimum of ninety (90) course credits at SLQF Level 5 or above from a recognized University,

• Or an equivalent or higher qualification acceptable to the Senate of the Open University of Sri Lanka
• And employed as a Teacher or a Principal of a recognized school or an In-service Advisor or a Teacher Educator or an Officer in the Sri Lanka Education Administrative Service (SLEAS) or a fulltime member in the academic staff of a University, National College of Education, Technical College and Teacher college or a manager of a Teacher Centre or a Lecturer in the National Institute of Education or any other Professional in the field of Education acceptable to the Senate of the Open University of Sri Lanka
