Master of Energy Management

The Master of Energy Management at the Open University of Sri Lanka is a one-year postgraduate study programme aimed at providing theoretical knowledge and skills in energy management. It is designed for graduates of engineering who aspire to become qualified energy managers or energy auditors. The curriculum covers core units in energy and environment, thermal and electrical energy utilities, HVAC and building lighting, renewable energy technology, energy policy and planning, energy management and auditing, and combined energy systems for efficient energy use.

Study is organized across two semesters and includes a research project, planning and implementation of energy projects, financial management, and human resource for the energy sector. The programme includes face-to-face classes and group activities in the form of mini projects or case studies. It also includes an energy audit project in the industry, and two online courses delivered by experts abroad.

Applicants shall satisfy at least one of the following requirements:

• (1) (a) A Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 90 SLQF credits in the disciplines of engineering, physical science, technology, or any other discipline related to the field of energy; or
• (1) (b) Any other equivalent or higher academic and professional qualifications, with experience related to the field of energy acceptable to the Senate of the Open University of Sri Lanka.
• (2) Passing an aptitude test and / or interview conducted by the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
