Master in Life Sciences Chemieingenieurwesen

The Master in Life Sciences – Chemieingenieurwesen leads to a Master of Science in Life Sciences. It combines elements of (Bio-)Chemistry, pharmacy, and environmental technology with modern process engineering, including safety engineering and sustainability. The programme covers deep knowledge in (Bio-)Chemistry, pharmacy, and environmental technology; safety engineering and sustainability; process development and optimization; technological reflection and practical application; and digital tools and real-time data.

Study mode includes full-time and part-time (in parallel with work). Learning takes place through remote and in-person formats. The programme uses an individual module portfolio, with module choices such as reaction technology, pharma production, and data analysis as well as elective areas like biotechnology, analytical chemistry, organic and supramolecular chemistry, and environmental technologies. The final master’s thesis is an eight-month project with an industry partner or at the Process Technology Center of the Hochschule für Life Sciences FHNW.

It offers an international option through a Double Degree with partner universities, or by completing the master thesis abroad. The programme states that graduates are prepared for roles in pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical companies; chemical and process engineering companies; raw material and circular economy companies; energy and environmental technology; technology start-ups and innovation centres; and consulting and engineering offices.
