ETH Zurich Scholarships

ETH Zurich supports excellent Master’s students (no MAS) with the Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme (ESOP). ESOP supports students with a scholarship, mentorship, and a network of the ETH Foundation. The scholarship covers the full study and living costs during the Master’s degree course.

ESOP covers both ETH Master’s students and ETH Bachelor students starting a consecutive Master programme. Eligibility requires a very good Bachelor’s degree result (top 10% of the Bachelor’s degree programme = grade A, based on self-assessment). If already enrolled in a Master’s degree programme at ETH Zurich, or holding a Master degree, a student is not eligible for ESOP.

Applications are submitted via eApply (online Master application) during the first application window. The scholarship is evaluated by the Admissions Committees of the respective Master’s programmes, and the final decision for awarding scholarships rests with the Rector of ETH Zurich.

ESOP is awarded for the regular duration of the Master’s programme (three or four semesters). The scholarship includes living and study expenses (CHF 12'000 per semester, plus an amount of CHF 13'500 per semester stated for later) and a tuition fee waiver. Plagiarism or negligent or intentional misinformation leads to exclusion from the admission process or, if discovered later, to revocation of admission and of any scholarship.

• Availability: must be reachable under the telephone number specified in the CV because selection might include a phone/VC interview; if not available during that time, inform the study programme coordinator

1. Apply through eApply by using the online Master application.
2. Submit the ESOP application within the first application window.
3. Upload a pre-proposal for the Master’s thesis (follow the provided guidelines).
4. Develop the Master’s thesis pre-proposal yourself using established scientific citation practice.
5. If the study programme does not ask for references, name two reference persons (professors) for the ESOP application; these persons must upload a reference letter after an email from the system.
6. Ensure the telephone number in the CV is reachable, as the selection process might include a phone/VC interview; if not available, inform the study programme coordinator.
