University of Geneva Excellence Masters Fellowship

The Faculty of Science of the University of Geneva, with support of external partners, established the Excellence Fellowship program for students who wish to pursue a Master of Science degree in one of the Faculty’s covered disciplines. The program’s stated purpose is to support a Master of Science degree at the University of Geneva. Candidate selection is based on excellence.

The fellowship is open to “outstanding and highly motivated students” who wish to pursue a Master of Science degree in disciplines covered by the Faculty of Science. Master’s degrees are either entirely in English, or in English and French. The fellowship requires applicants to meet the admission criteria of the Master of their choice.

Selection is based on the Excellence Fellowship application file. For an application to be considered, applicants must fulfill the enrollment procedure described on the Admissions office website and submit the required online application in a single PDF. Applications are evaluated from the submitted application file.

The Excellence Fellowship consists of a grant amounting to CHF 10,000 to CHF 15,000 annually (no teaching duties). It is awarded for an initial period and extended for the regular duration of the chosen Master’s program (three or four semesters), provided the applicant is academically successful at the end of the first semester of studies.

• Open to outstanding and highly motivated students who wish to pursue a Master of Science degree in a discipline covered by the Faculty of Science of the University of Geneva.
• Selection is based on excellence.
• Applicants must meet the admission criteria of the Master of their choice.
• Applicant must be selected based on the application file for an Excellence Fellowship.
• Applicants must fulfill the enrollment procedure described on the Admissions office website.
• Applicants who are already students at the University of Geneva must submit a scan of their UNIGE card as part of the application.
• Applicants who are not yet students at the University of Geneva must submit the mail entitled “UNIGE-Candidature: Dépôt de votre dossier” received after registering for the master’s program (proof that the registration process has begun).
• The application file is not considered if all the above-mentioned clauses are not completed.
• Students who have already started a Master programme at the Faculty of Science can no longer apply for the Excellence Master Fellowship.

• Grant amount: CHF 10,000 to CHF 15,000 annually.
• No teaching duties.
• Awarded for an initial period and extended for the regular duration of the chosen Master’s program (three or four semesters), provided academic success at the end of the first semester of studies.

1. Complete the enrollment procedure as described on the Admissions office website.
2. Apply online (application language: English or French).
3. Submit the application as a SINGLE PDF file containing the listed documents.
4. After registering, use the personal link received by email to fill out the application form.

• A scan of your national identity card or passport.
• A Curriculum Vitae (2 pages maximum).
• The transcript of exams passed during bachelor education, with all grades.
• A motivation letter describing specific scientific interests and motivation to pursue a Master of Science program at the University of Geneva.
• Letters of references from two professors attesting aptitude to this program.
• Any other pertinent information such as results of GRE (General requirement examination), TOEFL, or other language tests.
• If you are a student at UNIGE: a scan of your UNIGE card.
• If you are not yet a student at UNIGE: the mail entitled “UNIGE-Candidature: Dépôt de votre dossier” received after registering for the master’s program (proof that you have begun the registration process).
