AIT Royal Thai Government Scholarships

Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) administers Doctoral and master’s level non-binding scholarships provided by the Royal Thai Government (RTG). The scholarships are intended to give candidates from diverse Asian backgrounds the opportunity to study and conduct research together at AIT in an international environment, to build a foundation for international understanding among people of Asia.

His Majesty the King’s Scholarships support doctoral study in any academic program offered at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the Faculty of Advanced Science and Technology, the Faculty of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources, the Faculty of Climate Change and Sustainability, and the Faculty of Public Policy and Sustainable Development. For master’s study, His Majesty the King’s Scholarships cover programs offered by the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the Faculty of Advanced Science and Technology, and the School of Management, while Her Majesty the Queen’s Scholarships cover programs offered by the Faculty of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources, the Faculty of Climate Change and Sustainability, and the Faculty of Public Policy and Sustainable Development. The Loom Nam Khong Pijai (GMS) Scholarships support master’s programs related to four thematic areas: Infrastructure Development, Energy Technology, Oil, Gas, and Natural Resources Development, and Environmental Engineering and Management.

For eligibility, candidates are required to have an outstanding education record with specified undergraduate and graduate program lengths, plus GPA thresholds of at least 3.5 (or equivalent). Applicants must also meet English proficiency requirements (IELTS 6.0 with Overall and Writing bands, or AIT EET of at least 6.0). Required materials include recommendation letters and a research proposal for the doctoral scholarship, and the application process allows candidates to describe their request for the scholarship in a statement of purpose that can be uploaded as a separate file.

For doctoral study (Ph.D. programs), each scholarship award covers tuition, registration fees, accommodation, and a bursary for living expenses at AIT’s residential campus for the full duration of 41 months (7 semesters). For the GMS master’s program, each scholarship award covers tuition fees, accommodation, and a bursary for living expenses at AIT’s residential campus for the entire period of the 22-month master’s degree program. • For His Majesty the King’s Scholarships for Doctoral Programs: GPA of Bachelor’s and Master’s degree must be at least 3.5 or equivalent.
• For His Majesty the King’s Scholarships for Doctoral Programs: applicants must submit two recommendation letters.

• For His Majesty the King’s Scholarships for Doctoral Programs: candidates must be from Thailand or other Asian countries in one of the listed groupings: Bhutan, Laos PDR, Timor-Leste, and Thailand; ASEAN countries; BIMSTEC countries; other Asian countries.
• For His Majesty the King’s Scholarships for Master’s Programs: applicants must be from Asian countries and have demonstrated excellent undergraduate academic achievement, and must wish to pursue their first master’s degree in an academic program offered at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the Faculty of Advanced Science and Technology, or the School of Management.
• For Her Majesty the Queen’s Scholarships for Master’s Programs: applicants must be from Asian countries and have demonstrated excellent undergraduate academic achievement, and must wish to pursue their first master’s degree in an academic program offered at the Faculty of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources, the Faculty of Climate Change and Sustainability, or the Faculty of Public Policy and Sustainable Development.
