Bachelors in Accounting Programs in the UK: Top 13

Two of these thirteen are top-up degrees that a school leaver cannot apply for at all, one adds a foundation year at the start, and one builds in a full year in industry.

Almost none is accounting on its own — the subject nearly always arrives paired with business management, business law, marketing or finance, and that pairing decides what the degree is for. From 87 accounting programmes on record, these thirteen are set out by length, structure and entry route.

How this list is ordered: Ordered by each university's QS World University Rankings position where it has one, then by research citations recorded by OpenAlex; one programme per university, and universities with neither measure are left out.

Contemporary cases are used throughout rather than historical ones, keeping the material close to how global markets actually behave.

Accounting degrees in Britain: top-ups, placements and professional exams

What is a top-up degree and can I apply straight from school?

No, you cannot. A top-up is the final stage of a degree for someone who already holds a related qualification. Portsmouth runs its accountancy and financial management top-up over two years, and Southampton Solent names a Level 5 Diploma as the kind of qualification it builds on. Both assume prior study.

Will the degree exempt me from professional accountancy exams?

None of these thirteen records an answer, and that is the single most important question to put to each department. Exemptions from the professional bodies decide how many exams you still face after graduation, which can mean a difference of years. Get it in writing before you accept an offer.

Which course includes paid work experience?

York builds a year in industry into the degree, which is why it runs four years instead of three. For accounting that year matters more than usual, because employers recruit heavily from their own placement students and the work counts towards professional experience later.

What if my school results are not strong enough?

Two routes exist. Bangor includes a foundation year as part of its four-year course, so the extra year is built in rather than bolted on. Brunel accepts a completed foundation year in a related field as an entry qualification alongside A-levels.

What do admissions ask for?

Keele publishes IELTS 6.0 with no component below 5.5, and wants A-levels showing analytical and mathematical strength, ideally in Mathematics, Business Studies or Accounting. York asks for A-levels in subjects such as Mathematics and Business. Edge Hill accepts a BTEC Extended Diploma at Distinction, a T Level at Merit, or International Baccalaureate qualifications.
