Bachelor of Science in Agriculture

The Bachelor of Science in Agriculture at Gulu University trains students for work in agri-industry-related sectors and for advisory services to the community and agri-business establishments. The programme also focuses on developing and managing profitable agri-enterprises and preparing graduates to advance their careers in agricultural and related disciplines at postgraduate level. Its revised curriculum responds to challenges including poverty, food insecurity, and lack of employment for the youth.

Learning emphasises experiential learning, with community engagement and practical enterprise development integrated into student training. Students complete prescribed courses (core, elective, pre-requisite) and skills training for the degree. Graduation requires a total of 191 cumulative credit units, a CGPA of not less than 2.0, passing prescribed practical skills training, and completing and presenting a satisfactory field attachment, enterprise development, and special project reports.

• Direct entry: Pass the Uganda Certificate of Education or its equivalent examination with passes in five approved subjects including a credit in Mathematics, and obtain a principal pass in any two of the following: Chemistry, Biology or Agriculture at Advanced Level obtained at the same sitting.
• Mature age entry scheme: Admission may be granted after passing the appropriate Mature Age Entry Examination.
• Diploma entry scheme: Admission may be granted if a candidate possesses a National Diploma or its equivalent of at least a Second Class standing or equivalent in agriculture, animal husbandry, veterinary, crop husbandry, Fishery or other related disciplines, from recognized institutions.
