Master of Science in Information and Communications Technologies for Development

The Master of Science in Information and Communications Technologies for Development (MID) focuses on using Information and Communication Technology for Development (ICT4D) to support regional and national development frameworks aligned to the Global Sustainable Development Goals and other development visions and plans. The programme is linked to national development planning by addressing bottlenecks such as under-development of human resources and low value addition, with ICT4D applied concurrently with national programmes.

The programme has a duration of 2 years and is delivered on a weekend study time. Assessment for each course uses 100 total marks split between coursework (50%) and a written examination (50%). Coursework consists of laboratory work and progressive assessment through assignments/tests, with a minimum of two coursework assignments and/or tests required per course.

To qualify for admission, a candidate must fulfil the general Gulu University entry requirements for master’s degrees, and in addition the candidate must be a holder of either;

• i). A Postgraduate Diploma in computing disciplines, including Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, and Computer Engineering from a recognized Institution; or
• ii). A Bachelor’s degree with at least a second-class lower degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, and Computer Engineering from a recognized Institution, or
• iii). Any other Bachelor’s degree with at least a second class upper from a recognized Institution.
