The MSc Environmental Drone Remote Sensing at University of Wales, Swansea trains students to create and use high resolution remote sensing data using sensors flown on drone platforms. Students study satellite remote sensing, Geographical Information Systems, ecosystems, and drone accreditation and remote sensing. The programme also covers the workflow to capture and analyse remote sensing data for environmental needs, including flight design and planning and image processing.
Teaching is campus based and delivered through a blend of lectures, practical hands-on training, seminars, computer lab work, and field trips. The assessment includes presentations, essays, reports, a dissertation, and exam components in some modules. Drone training includes theoretical and practical flight training and assessment, partly taught by an external CAA accredited training provider, leading to General Visual line of sight Certificate (GVC) competency accreditation.
