Bachelor of Science in Social Work

The Bachelor of Science in Social Work at Africa University is an undergraduate programme in the Department of Social Work. It covers social work and social welfare, and includes selected study drawn from Psychology, Sociology, Counselling, and multidisciplinary areas. Students carry out independent research under the supervision of assigned lecturers.

The programme runs for 4 year(s) in full time study and includes 6 semesters of taught courses plus 2 semesters of internship. Students must complete a minimum of 480 credit hours for graduation. Course work includes topics such as ethics and professional social work practice, trauma counselling, research methods and statistics in social work, social policy and social administration, and monitoring and evaluation of social work programmes.

Applicants will be selected on the basis of the following:

• A minimum of 5 O levels including Mathematics and English.
• Atleast 2 good A level passes with 2 points or better in relevant subject areas.

Special Entry:

• Candidates will be considered for mature entry under the following conditions:
• Applicants must be at least 25 years or above at the time of application
• Applicants must have obtained 5 O level subjects including English and Maths
• Work/Practical experience in a related field will be an added advantage

• Programme managers/officers in NGOs dealing with vulnerable populations
• Child protection officers
