Master of Science Degree in Social Work Msw Developmental

The Master of Science Degree in Social Work (MSW) (Developmental) at Midlands State University is a specialised programme focused on developmental social work. Students study advanced research methods and statistics, management of social service organisations, advanced social work theories and approaches, and social policy theory and practice. The curriculum also covers advanced community development theory and practice, comparative social policy, advanced social planning, social protection, and critical social work.

Teaching and learning use lectures, seminars, group work, field-based activities, research projects, and individual independent study. Assessment includes written and oral examinations, tests, written and practical assignments, field reports, and seminar presentations. The programme runs for 18 months and includes Work-Related Learning and a Research Project.

Normal Entry: Bachelor of Science Honours in Social Work with 2.2 pass or better, or Postgraduate Diploma in Social Work. In addition, students must be registered with the Council of Social Workers in terms of the Social Workers Act.
