The Master of Science Degree in Peace, Security and Development (MPSD) at Midlands State University prepares students to develop a critical appreciation of how to manage Peace, Security and Development issues. Students study theories for peace, security and development, gender peace and development, research methods and statistics, disaster management, and related areas including governance and development, peace economics, conflict analysis and transformation, migration and human security, human rights and social justice for development, security intelligence, and diplomacy.
The programme is delivered through lectures, tutorials, seminars, group work, presentations, public lectures, practicals, guest lecturers, and lecture notes. It includes continuous assessment (written assignments, workshop reports, seminar and group presentations, in-class tests, and other relevant assessments) and end-of-semester examinations. The structure includes core modules, electives, and a dissertation, with a programme duration of 18 months.
