Computerlinguistik
Introduction
Computerlinguistik is a Bachelor program taught at Universität Potsdam, Germany. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.
Computerlinguistik (Bachelor of Science) studies how computers can analyze and process human language. Universität Potsdam states the focus includes mathematical properties of natural and artificial languages and the representation of linguistic facts in a form that computers can understand. Students learn Grundlagen of syntax, semantics, and morphology, plus mathematical, logical, and computer science foundations. The programme includes work on grammars, lexica, text structures, text corpora, and statistical procedures.
Universität Potsdam states the degree is modular. It combines subject knowledge from theoretical linguistics with applied computerlinguistic computer science and artificial intelligence. From the first semester, the programme starts implementing basic concepts using the logical specification language PROLOG on the computer. The page also links course work to related disciplines including Psycho-, Neuro-, and Patholinguistics and psychology, and it includes programming language training.
Universität Potsdam states that students prepare for non-university activities and for research-focused further study within the Master’s programme. The page also says that computerlinguists work at large industry companies and dynamic start-ups at the boundary between computer science and linguistics.
