Introduction

Patholinguistik is a Bachelor program taught at Universität Potsdam, Germany. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.

Patholinguistik is a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Ein-Fach-Bachelor at Universität Potsdam. The programme focuses on Sprach-, Sprech- und Schluckstörungen in adults and children. It covers cognitive neurolinguistics and psycholinguistics and teaches the theoretical basics for models of normal and impaired language processing and for language acquisition, which support diagnostic and therapeutic concepts.

From the 1st semester, the degree includes an intensive clinical-practical training. Students hospitate in exercise treatments with higher semester students and conduct their own exercise treatments under supervision. Seminars and practical exercises are closely linked to support both scientific and therapeutic training. The regular duration is 7 semesters, and it is offered in German.

The programme prepares graduates for work as academic speech therapists in language therapy/speech therapy (Sprachtherapie/Logopädie) and qualifies them to apply Heilmittel in Sprach-, Sprech- und Schlucktherapie. Graduates can work in clinical or outpatient settings such as hospitals, rehabilitation clinics, geriatric facilities, social pediatric centres, and speech therapy/logopedic practices, or take roles in teaching and research.
