Bachelor's in Geoökologie

Geoökologie is a Bachelor program taught at Universität Potsdam, Germany. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.

Geoökologie is an Ein-Fach-Bachelor (Bachelor of Science) at Universität Potsdam. The program is an interdisziplinäre Umweltnaturwissenschaft focused on understanding complex relationships and interactions in nature, with the goal of analysis and solutions to problems between people and the environment. It combines a mathematically-nature-scientific part with a subject-focused geoecology part.

Geoökologie uses methods such as targeted observations in the field and in the lab, chemical analysis, geoinformatics, remote sensing, and mathematical modelling. The Bachelor program is modular and structured into foundations and a deeper study area that includes a method section and two subject choice modules, with a total of 180 Leistungspunkte. It includes targeted field investigations, including a Landschaftspraktikum, and an integrated Berufspraktikum.

The study aims to prepare graduates for professional and research-related requirements. Universität Potsdam states that graduates can work interdisziplinär and problem-oriented and apply suitable methods to answer geoecology questions. The program creates a basis for roles in national and international authorities and (research) institutions, planning and engineering offices, and companies in industry.

• Ein Studienerfolg und -motivation are linked with having a lot of curiosity for environmental and natural science questions, enjoyment of working in the field, interest in lab-based analyses, and interest in computer-supported data evaluations.
• Solide Kenntnisse in den mathematisch-naturwissenschaftlichen Basisdisziplinen and a safe use of the German and English language are described as helpful.
• If needed, knowledge and skills gaps in mathematics can be closed before studies through a bridging course offered by Universität Potsdam.
