Bachelor's in Linguistik

Linguistik is a Bachelor program taught at Universität Potsdam, Germany. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.

Universität Potsdam offers a one-subject Bachelor of Science in Linguistik. The programme teaches methods and theories for analyzing language ability in the field of cognitive science. Students study formal foundations such as formal logic, programming language, and statistical methods, alongside grammar theory from phonology to semantics, psycholinguistics (language acquisition and language processing), and topics in computer linguistics. Later phases build deeper knowledge in selected areas of grammar theory and psycholinguistics.

The degree has a modular structure with a total scope of 180 Leistungspunkte.

Core modules include Einführung in die Linguistik und Computerlinguistik, Einführung in die Phonetik und Phonologie, Einführung in die Morphologie, Einführung in die Syntax, Einführung in die Semantik, Einführung in die Psycho- und Neurolinguistik, Mathematische und logische Grundlagen, and Forschungskolloquium und Versuchspersonenstunden.

Students can complete part of the credits through research-related internal placements that are typically assigned semester by semester by Linguistics Institute lecturers, and placements can also be taken outside the institute.

The programme is designed as an Ein-Fach-Bachelor and is also offered within a Zwei-Fach-Bachelor. Universität Potsdam states that graduates can pursue research and teaching at universities and research institutions such as Max-Planck-Instituten, and that the programme provides preparation for specialized master programmes. It also lists related fields outside academia, including machine language processing and the therapy of speech disorders.

The minimum requirements for admission in Linguistik at Universität Potsdam for all applicants (Domestic or International) are:
