Animal Behavior and Cognition, B.S.

Animal Behavior and Cognition, B.S. is a Bachelor program taught at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

The Animal Behavior and Cognition B.S. is a STEM and research-based bachelor’s program that studies how animals think, learn, and interact with their environment. It integrates psychology, ethology, and biology, and examines how species—including humans—navigate environmental and social challenges. Students study animal cognition to gain insights that support conservation, improve animal welfare, and advance psychological research.

The degree includes hands-on research opportunities through coursework and faculty-led research. Students can work with exotic animals at a dedicated facility through a partnership with Brevard Zoo, including the zoo’s Animal Cognitive Research Center. The program also includes the Roach Lab, where students design and conduct independent research using cockroaches as a model. Animal behavior internships are built into the degree for training in animal care, husbandry, or public education.

Internship experience can include placements at Brevard Zoo, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Dolphins Plus Bayside, EPCOT, Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, Lemur Conservation Foundation, and MOTE Marine Laboratory and Aquarium. The program prepares students for animal-related careers and for graduate study in animal behavior and cognition.
