Aviation Human Factors and Safety, B.S.
Introduction
Aviation Human Factors and Safety, B.S. is a Bachelor program taught at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.
The B.S. in Aviation Human Factors and Safety focuses on the human element in human–machine interactions. It teaches students to identify and apply human-machine interaction principles to the design and operation of engineered systems, with the goal of improving safety. The program is interdisciplinary and covers psychology, engineering, science, and design, preparing students for careers such as safety analysis, human-centered design, and accident investigation, or for advanced degrees in human factors or safety.
Learning combines theoretical foundations with hands-on projects and human factors research. Students build a portfolio of career-relevant experience and complete projects using computer-aided design (CAD) for airport and terminal design and experiments such as noise studies. Training includes work in the Basic Aviation Training Device (BATD) Lab using desktop simulators under a flight instructor’s guidance for air traffic control (ATC) operations, plus access to facilities and an aircraft fleet at the Emil Buehler Center for Aviation Training and Research.
