Introduction

Communication is a Bachelor program taught at Boston College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.

Boston College’s Communication major requires 34 credits and is built around four core requirements: COMM 1010 Rhetorical Tradition, COMM 1020 Introduction to Media Studies (with Fundamentals of Creative Communication lab), COMM 1030 Public Speaking, and COMM 3360 Communication Methods. Students also complete one theory course (any course numbered between COMM 3361 and COMM 3380), two writing intensive seminars (any two courses numbered between COMM 4425 and COMM 4475), and four electives (12 credits) from department 3-credit classes.

Core requirement courses are taken before other major coursework. Methods should ideally not be taken until after Rhetorical Tradition, Introduction to Media Studies, and Public Speaking. Theory courses should ideally not be taken until after the common requirement courses and Communication Methods. Writing intensive seminars are upper-level courses and should not be taken until after the four common requirements; freshmen and sophomores should never register for writing-intensive seminars. Internship practicum is available as a 3-credit elective only once during the junior or senior year, and COMM 5589 Senior Internship Seminar is a 3-credit course for junior and senior Communication majors after completing at least six communication courses including COMM 1010, COMM 1020, COMM 1030, and COMM 3360.
