Introduction

Film Studies is a Bachelor program taught at Boston College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.

Boston College’s Film Studies program studies film through cultural, artistic, and humanistic perspectives. Students explore storytelling and visual expression, and they consider the human experience through film. The program also supports students in developing their own interests and creative voices in film.

Many students move from short films in Filmmaking I to more sophisticated storytelling in Filmmaking II. In Filmmaking III, each student writes, shoots, and edits an original short film, then screens it for an audience at an on-campus showcase. Courses in cinematography and editing with Adobe Premiere support semi-professional filmmaking skills.

The program connects study with media work. Students pursue careers such as documentary filmmaking, producing, editing, film marketing, advertising, television, and media production, and some work with museums and educational organizations as videographers and media specialists. Others continue graduate study at USC, UCLA, NYU, Boston University, and Emerson College, or create films alongside other disciplines.
