Bachelor's in History
Introduction
History is a Bachelor program taught at Boston College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.
The History major at Boston College is a B.A. program that provides a grounding in historical study and lets history majors pursue specific periods or regions.
Students take required courses including The Study and Writing of History (3000-level classes for history majors only) and a senior requirement through Senior Honors Thesis Seminar or Senior Colloquium or Making History Public (5000-level classes for history majors only).
The major also includes History I or II core class (for the Class of and after), plus US History, LAMA electives, free electives, and upper-division electives.
The major requirements include a defined course and credit pattern. The Study and Writing of History is a three-credit course taught in sections of 13–15 students. Students research and write a major paper based on primary source research. The course requires at least 30 pages of written work, including a historiographical writing assignment and a major (normally 25-page) research paper submitted in both draft and revised forms, with instructor interaction through class meetings and individual meetings during the semester.
The page presents the major as leading to completion of the History major requirements. It also notes that the department houses a chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, a national history honor society, with admission open to students who meet the stated criteria.
