Introduction

Visual Arts is a Bachelor program taught at Hampden-Sydney College, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

The Visual Arts program at Hampden-Sydney College develops appreciation for the fine arts and individual skills through studio courses and art history classes. Studio art includes beginning and intermediate drawing, color and 2D design, portraiture, direct and indirect painting, and beginning and intermediate photography. Students also take art history courses that connect with Fine Arts, Classics, Religion, and History, including survey courses and upper-level special topics such as American Domestic Architecture.

Studio courses focus on practical making and progression from beginning to intermediate work, with advanced students able to set up special courses. Creative work is supported through student publications, including the yearbook, newspaper, and literary magazine, and through the Publications Office, which encourages student talent in production and design with emphasis on advertising. On-campus exhibitions feature student and professional work, and The Gallery supports a major exhibition each semester.
