Bachelor's in Fine Arts
Introduction
Fine Arts is a Bachelor program taught at Hampden-Sydney College, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.
The Fine Arts program at Hampden-Sydney College brings together Music, Theatre, and Visual Arts to support artistic creation and interpretation. Students study art through art-making, cultural study, and critical analysis. Degree offerings include a Theatre major or minor, a Visual Arts major or minor, and a Music minor. Course work focuses on areas such as learning music theory, composition, and performance; acting and design; and studio practice in drawing, painting, photography, and design.
Music courses build from basic to advanced work in theory, composition, and performance. Students can create through participation in the HSC Chorus, the Instrumental Ensemble, The Acousticals, or by taking private lessons, and they can listen through the Hampden Sydney Music Series public concerts.
Theatre offers classes and independent studies across acting, set and light design, stagecraft, playwriting, and directing, with two main-stage productions each year. Visual Arts includes beginning and intermediate drawing, color and 2D design, portraiture, painting, and beginning and intermediate photography, supported by art history and related study.
