Bachelor's in Art and Art History Major
Introduction
Art and Art History Major is a Bachelor program taught at Kalamazoo College, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.
The Art and Art History Major at Kalamazoo College includes two degree paths within the art department: studio art and art history. Studio art courses include beginning to advanced classes in drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, printmaking, digital art, documentary video, and combined media, and they explore creative visual expression and the practices of each art form. The art history program focuses on critical looking, thinking, and analysis, with historical and theoretical study of visual cultures.
Coursework is supported by experiential learning, including visiting museums and galleries, working with local and visiting artists and art historians, and attending external lectures. The major culminates in a Senior Integrated Project (SIP), where students showcase their learning through an artwork body of work, in-depth research, or an internship—typically at a museum or gallery—paired with reflection and research. The program supports preparation for careers in industry, education, and non-profit work, and for graduate study.
