Introduction

Applied mathematics is a Bachelor program taught at New College of Florida, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.

The Applied Mathematics degree (B.A.) in the Natural Sciences Division gives students a foundation in mathematics and the skills to apply advanced mathematical methods to complex problems. Students learn advanced mathematical methods and can tailor their program through options including an Area of Concentration, a Joint Concentration, or a Secondary Field. Many students pursue an Applied Mathematics Area of Concentration alone, while others combine it in a “slash” degree with Biology, Physics, Economics, Statistics, Computer Science, and other concentrations.

Students take courses such as Mathematical Modeling, Ordinary Differential Equations, Numerical Methods, and Probability I & II, with programming included in Mathematical Modeling. MATH 4400 Mathematical Modeling introduces mathematical modeling and dynamical systems, including discrete and continuous time behaviors studied using mathematical analysis, numerical solutions, and computer simulations. Students use the scientific computing package Matlab and complete hands-on applications on the computer during the semester.
