Introduction

Art history is a Bachelor program taught at New College of Florida, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.

Art History at New College of Florida is a B.A. in the Humanities division. Students study how artworks and artifacts shape, and are shaped by, their historical context(s). The program uses tools and lenses for analyzing creative forms across time periods and cultures, including fine arts and other artifacts of material culture such as ceramics, textiles, or advertisements, as well as postmodern and contemporary artworks.

The area of concentration emphasizes coursework grounded in specific time periods with chronological breadth, plus thematic, global, or studio art-focused coursework. It includes a theory and method course with critical frameworks central to art history, foreign language study, and applied art historical knowledge through an internship. Hands-on learning includes direct contact with artworks at the Ringling Museum of Art, with additional opportunities at institutions such as the Sarasota Art Museum and Marie Selby Botanical Gardens.
