Introduction

Chemistry and Biochemistry is a Bachelor program taught at Niagara University, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

Niagara University offers Chemistry and Biochemistry majors including a B.S. in Chemistry, a B.S. in Biochemistry, and a B.A. in Chemistry. The B.S. in Chemistry provides foundational training across all areas of chemistry and covers analytical, organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry. The B.S. in Biochemistry adds study in biology and focuses on the chemistry of biological organisms and the molecular processes that drive biological systems. The B.A. in Chemistry offers flexibility in upper-level course choice.

Students learn through coursework that connects chemical structures, reactions, and properties with work on biomolecules. Laboratory experience and research work are essential components. Students develop hands-on skills in techniques such as chromatography, spectroscopy, structural determination, electrochemistry, and chemical synthesis. Participation in faculty-led research projects supports practical learning. The program uses research facilities including nuclear magnetic resonance, liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, thermal analysis, and elemental analysis, alongside other instruments.

Students also may participate in the Niagara University Science Training and Research program, which includes NUSTAR seminars, research, and programming. The program requires a minimum GPA of 3.5 and successful participation in NUSTAR seminars, research, and programming. NUSTAR provides a stipend of $6,000 per year, travel funding to present research, and opportunities for summer research funding and on-campus housing.
