Introduction

Educational Studies is a Bachelor program taught at Trinity College (CT), USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

The Educational Studies major is an interdisciplinary program that blends a liberal arts education with real-world experience, learning, and research methods. Students study the theory, policy, and practice of schooling and its relationship with society, with collaborative learning involving classrooms and communities in the city of Hartford. The program supports students who aim to become educators, activists, policymakers, or more informed citizens.

Coursework starts with Ed 200: Analyzing Schools, then moves to Ed 300: Ed Reform Past and Present for learning about movements for change. Students develop research skills using qualitative, quantitative, and/or historical methods and deepen knowledge through advanced courses in areas of concentration. The capstone is Educ 400: Senior Research Seminar, where students produce independent thesis work.

In addition to courses taught by Educational Studies faculty, students take cross-referenced courses from other departments and programs, including American Studies, anthropology, international studies, political science, psychology, public policy, sociology, theater and dance, and others. The major is not a teacher certification program, but the college advises students from across the program on pathways to teaching and youth work.
