Doctoral Programme in Administrative Sciences, Business Studies and Politics

Tampere University’s Doctoral Programme in Administrative Sciences, Business Studies and Politics leads to the degrees of Doctor of Administrative Sciences, Doctor of Science (Economics and Business Administration), Doctor of Social Sciences, and in special circumstances Doctor of Philosophy. Students carry out doctoral-level research in their chosen field and in the Faculty of Management and Business’s main research themes, including management in all its forms, the interface between the public and private sectors, democracy and power, responsibility and sustainable development, value creation and innovation, performance, measurement and evaluation, and urban and regional development.

The programme is planned as a four-year doctoral degree and is taught in Finnish and English in blended teaching mode. The degree includes General Academic Competences and Discipline- and Field Specific Studies. A doctoral dissertation is required, and it may be a monograph, an article-based dissertation, or, in economics, a compilation dissertation.

The programme is designed for students interested in research degrees and academic work. Tampere University states that graduates can move into academic research or teaching positions, and into demanding expert and research roles in industry, business, or public administration.

Scientific postgraduate education usually requires a higher university degree at Master’s level. The Faculty must deem the applicant’s basic university degree or other equivalent degree an adequate basis for pursuing postgraduate studies.
