Tampere University’s Administrative Sciences, Sustainable Urban Development programme combines a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree. In the bachelor’s part, students in the administrative sciences specialisation study basic and intermediate studies in administrative sciences. The curriculum includes research methods, politics of sustainable development, urban studies, and optional studies in administrative sciences.
The programme also includes challenge-based Urban Lab work. Students take part in real-life urban development projects with organisations such as the City of Tampere, meet local urban planners, citizens and organisations, and work in interdisciplinary teams to co-create solutions. In the master’s part, the Governance for Sustainable Change specialisation focuses on governance issues in public sector reforms and new forms of collaboration.
All students admitted to the bachelor’s programme have the right to continue to the master’s degree. Graduates from the administrative science specialisation have found employment in city organisations responsible for urban development and international affairs, in research projects within academia, and in companies focusing on urban planning and public participation.
