The Master’s Programme in Agricultural Sciences at the University of Helsinki covers plant production sciences, animal science, agrotechnology and environmental soil science. You study sustainable food production, land use, biodiversity, climate adaptation, automation, breeding, soil health, renewable energy and related research methods. The programme is based on active research and on shared themes such as bioeconomy, nutrient cycling, food systems and genomics.
The degree is 120 ECTS credits and is planned for two academic years. It includes 90 ECTS of advanced studies in one chosen track, including a 30 ECTS master’s thesis, and 30 ECTS of elective studies. The advanced studies are split into joint courses and track-specific courses. The thesis is written from research in a laboratory, greenhouse or experimental field, often in a research group or with a research institute or company.
The programme is designed for students interested in agriculture and in solutions for sustainable food production, land use and environmental biodiversity. It leads to the degree of Master of Science (Agriculture and Forestry) and qualifies graduates to apply for doctoral studies.
