Biomedical Informatics, Biomedical Sciences and Engineering combines engineering with life sciences at the interface between engineering and health sciences. The Biomedical Informatics specialisation covers advanced computational methods, including artificial intelligence tools, data analysis methods for health data, decision support, regulatory requirements, and the design of systems, algorithms, software, models, methods, and processes for biomedical informatics solutions.
The programme is organised into modules and includes common core studies before specialisation studies. Teaching methods include lectures, group work, presentation, laboratory practice, and a small research project. Students can choose elective courses or free choice study modules from Tampere University or other universities. The Master’s thesis carries 30 credits and the research project is tailored to the student’s career plan. The programme is two years and requires full-time study.
The programme is designed to build a solid understanding of biomedical sciences and health technology. Tampere University states that the thesis can prepare students for work in industry or hospitals, or for an academic career.
