Xamk’s Disaster Management programme studies emergencies and disasters through technology, leadership and multidisciplinary collaboration. The core studies cover principles and concepts in emergencies and disasters, disaster and emergency management, risks, vulnerability and resilience, personal preparedness and safety, technology, digitalisation and AI, and leadership and management in emergencies and disasters.
The programme is organised mainly as contact studies at Xamk’s Kotka campus. Teaching includes interactive lectures, practical exercises, guidance sessions, seminars, group work and independent study in an online learning environment. Simulation exercises form a central part of the studies, and students can also connect their learning with their own work community or Xamk’s research, development and innovation activities through their personal study plan.
Xamk describes the programme as suitable for anyone interested in crisis and disaster management, regardless of educational background. Graduates are expected to be specialist practitioners who can work in disaster and crisis situations, develop sustainable solutions and lead multidisciplinary teams.
