Biomedical Sciences and Engineering combines engineering with life sciences. In the Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering specialisation, students study biomedical materials synthesis and characterisation, interfacial interaction between biomedical devices and biological moieties, stem cell technology, scaffold design, tissue functionality, clinical outcomes, and regulations.
The programme is organised into modules and includes optional components. Students first complete common basic studies, which include an introduction to graduate studies in Finland and the Finnish language, before they start specialisation studies. Teaching includes lectures, group work, presentations, laboratory assignments, and a small research project. The master’s thesis carries 30 credits, and the programme can be completed in two years of full-time study.
Tampere University says the specialisation prepares students for independent expert work in industry or academia. The thesis can support an academic career or prepare students for work in industry or a hospital.
