The Master's Degree Programme in Biomedical Imaging trains students in imaging methods and technologies. It covers light microscopy, advanced fluorescence techniques, super-resolution imaging techniques, electron microscopy, nuclear imaging and magnetic resonance imaging. Students also learn bioimage informatics analysis techniques, IT skills and statistical analysis.
The programme includes laboratory and practical research work with analysis and evaluation in projects that include imaging components. Depending on the advanced studies specialisation, students gain basic to advanced knowledge and skills in medical imaging, microscopy or data analysis. The teaching language is English, and the programme is jointly administered by the University of Turku and Åbo Akademi University.
University of Turku states that the programme is intended for students with a B.Sc. degree in biochemistry, bioinformatics, biology, biomedical sciences, chemistry, computational biology, engineering, medical sciences, pharmacology or physics. It says graduates can work in life sciences, academic or industrial research, product development, instrument development, diagnostics, hospital research laboratories, core facility management and scientific administration.
